The file type used for the patch is a .msp file, a Microsoft Installer Patch file. In the past Microsoft associated this file with Paint for some users. This is can be corrected using the File and Folder settings in Windows.
1) Open the Control Panel from Start
2) Select Folder Options
3) Select file types
4) Locate the msp file type
5) Select change
6) Associate the file with Windows Installer
7) Choose OK and close then to save these settings
This should correct the update issue.
When I try to install the latest patch, it open Microsoft Paint? Why is this happening and what can I do to get the patch to install? (KB002149)
