First create a primary partition for your Solaris 9 install in Manual Partitioning.
The 'custom partition' will create the partition initially as a Linux swap partition (it has the same partition ID that Solaris 9 has). After the Solaris 9 install, the partition will show up as a UNIX partition.


Solaris 9 Installation Steps


1) Boot from the Solaris 9 Disk 1 of 2. 
2) At the “Solaris Device Configuration Assistant” screen, press F2_Continue. 
3) At the “Identified Devices” screen, press F2_Continue. 
4) At the “Boot Solaris” screen, select “CD” and press F2_Continue. 
5) At the “Current Boot Parameters” screen, select “1 Interactive Solaris” and press F2_Continue. 
6) At the “Select a Language” screen, select “0” for English and press the “Enter” key on the keyboard. 
7) At the “Select a Locale” screen, select “0” for English and press the “Enter” key on the keyboard. 
8) At “The Solaris Installation Program” screen, press F2_Continue. 
9) At the “kdmconfig - Introduction” screen, press F4_bypass. 
10) At the “Identify This System” screen, press F2_Continue. 
11) At the “Network Connectivity” screen, select yes or no and press F2_Continue. 
12) At the “DHCP” screen, select yes or no and press F2_Continue. 
13) At the “IPv6” screen, select yes or no and press F2_Continue. 
14) At the “Confirm Information” screen, press F2_Continue. 
15) At the “Configure Security Policy:” screen, select yes or no and press F2_Continue. 
16) At the “DNS Server Addresses” screen, enter info and press F2_Continue. 
17) At the “DNS Search List” screen, enter info and press F2_Continue. 
18) At the “Confirm Information” screen, press F2_Continue. 
19) At the “Time Zone” screen, select “Americas” and press F2_Continue. 
20) At the “Country or Region” screen, select “United States” and press F2_Continue. 
21) At the “Time Zone” screen, select “Pacific” and press F2_Continue. 
22) At the “Date and Time” screen, enter info and press F2_Continue. 
23) At the “Time Zone” screen, select “Pacific” and press F2_Continue. 
24) At the “Confirm Information” screen, press F2_Continue. 
25) At the “Solaris Interactive Installation” screen, press F2_Standard. 
26) At the “Select Geographic Regions” screen, select “North America” and press F2_Continue. 
27) At the “Select Software” screen, select “End User System Support” and press F2_Continue. 
28) At the “Select Disks” screen, select drive and press F2_Continue. 
29) At the “Automatically Layout File Systems?” screen, press F2_Auto Layout. 
30) At the “Automatically Layout File Systems” screen, press F2_Continue. 
31) At the “File System and Disk Layout” screen, press F2_Continue. 
32) At the “Mount Remote File Systems?” screen, press F2_Continue. 
33) At the “Profile” screen, press F2_Continue. 
34) At the “Reboot After Installation?” screen, select “Manual Reboot” and press F2_Begin Installation. 
35) At the “Information” screen, press F2_OK. 
36) After reboot, at the “kdmconfig – Introduction” screen, press F4_Bypass. 
37) At the “root password” screen, type desired password and press enter. 
38) At the “Media” screen, insert Solaris 9 Disk 2 of 2 CD. Select “1 CD/DVD” and press enter. 
39) At the “Installation details:” screen, select “2 Done” and enter. 
40) At the “Media” screen, insert “Solaris 9 Language CD”. Select “1 CD/DVD and press enter. 
41) At the “Ready to Install” screen, select “1 Exit Installation” and press enter. 
42) At the “Select Partition to Boot” screen, select “2 Solaris” and press enter . 
43) At the “Login” screen, type “root” and press enter. 
44) At the “Profile” screen, press F2_Continue. 
45) After reboot, at the “Select Partition to Boot” screen, select “1 Windows” and press enter.
