During backup procedure ("Create image of ...") archive file is created which contains an exact image of a partition or a disk. This is an ordinary file which is stored among other files.
If you are copying a partition a new identical partition will be created on destination media.
If you are copying a disk then partition structure of the source disk will be recreated on the destination disk and all data from source drive will be copyed to destination drive. After this operation destination drive became as close to a dublicate of the source drive as possible. Note that all data on destination drive will be destroyed during copy procedure.
